Description

Statutory Financial Accountant Position Summary

 

We are currently seeking an accurate, experienced, and thorough statutory financial accountant to join our insurance company, and MGA. In this role, you will demonstrate your expertise in a variety of accounting practices, including accounts receivable and payable, reconciling the general ledger, approving expense reports, and conducting audits. To succeed in this position, you will be highly accurate and efficient adding value to the accounting team and upholding our firm's exceptional reputation.

 

New York Required Information-Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 annually and is dependent upon prior experience, qualifications, and references from prior employers.

 

  • The position is exempt under the FLSA under the professional exemption.
  • This is an “in office” position. Due to confidentiality requirements, this position is not designed to work remotely.


Requirements

Financial Accountant Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting team of five members
  • Coordinate with Department mangers to monitor workflow, cashflow, operations and staffing adjustments
  • Create periodic statutory financial statements
  • Generate billing statements and reports
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual audits
  • Review and approve expense reports
  • Review and reconcile the general ledger regularly
  • Create forecasting and budgets and lead planning sessions
  • Review, revise, and manage contracts with outside vendors with management
  • Ensure payroll is timely, accurate and compliant with all local, state, and federal law
  • Ensure payroll tax filings are accurate and timely
  • Manage all corporate tax filings
  • Always maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations
  • Uphold the excellent reputation of our companies
  • Maintain constant communication with the senior management
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve shared goals
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting or relevant field required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • MBA preferred
  • Multiple years of experience as a financial analyst or statutory accountant in a corporate setting
  • Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Office and databases
    • High level Excel skills required
  • Superior math skills and an analytical mind
  • Strong knowledge with QuickBooks and financial statements
  • Consistent, accurate, thorough, and detail-oriented
  • Exceptional organizational skills and aptitude for numbers
  • Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Polished phone and email etiquette
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
  • Five years insurance company financial experience
  • Statutory and GAAP finance experience

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

 

  • MBA
  • Insurance industry experience
  • CPCU or equivalent

 

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to type and use a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • The ability to interact effectively with staff, management, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to work in an office environment 5 days per week
